Dr Jan C. Fransoo is a Professor of Operations Management and Logistics in the School of Industrial Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering and a PhD in Operations Management & Logistics from Eindhoven University of Technology. Following the completion of his PhD Thesis, he was awarded a fellowship by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (Akademie-onderzoeker). He specializes in Operations Planning and Supply Chain Management in the process, pharma, food, and retail industries, and recently set up research groups in Supply Chain Carbon Emissions and Supply Chain Finance.

At TU/e, Fransoo has served in the management team of the research group OPACas Dean of the TU/e Graduate School (2014-2017), and was the founding Program Director of the MSc Program in Operations Management & Logistics (2007-2014). He has also served as Director of the 3TU School for Technological Design Stan Ackermans Institute (2014-2017). Fransoo held visiting appointments at various universities, including Clemson University, Stanford University, the University of California at Los Angeles, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is regular visitor to Tsinghua University (China), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong), Tec de Monterrey (Mexico), and the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), where he holds an appointment as honorary visiting professor. He serves as Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management, as Associate Editor of Operations Research, and has served and serves on the editorial board of a number of other journals. He has published over 100 papers and book chapters in academic journals and books such as Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, IIE Transactions, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and European Journal of Operational Research. He is editor of and author in the books Behavioral Operations in Planning and Scheduling, Sustainable Supply Chains, and Reaching 50 Million Nanostores - Retail Distribution in Emerging Megacities.

As part from his academic activities, Professor Fransoo has conducted dozens of projects with industry, mainly with and through his Master, Professional Doctorate, and Doctorate students. He is a frequent speaker at academic and professional conferences, both in the Netherlands and abroad. He also serves on various governmental and nationwide committees, such as the Strategisch Platform Logistiek (Strategic Platform on Logistics), is a member of the Supervisory Board of TKI Logistiek and was a co-founder and Vice-President of Dinalog (Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics).
